Design Communication
PROJECT 1: On-site sketching and Tonal values
A first-hand conscious experience is important in the understanding and articulation of space. This assessment introduced students to visualization and expression of space through on-site sketching activity on campus.
This exercise is designed to develop our skills in creating depth and tone in a sketch, and thus refining the ability to produce an architectural sketch that is legible. Based on the selected image, four variations are to be produced. Hatching techniques such as stippling, cross-hatching, one-directional hatching and scribbling were learnt.
Through this exercise we can develop our skills in visualizing of space through observation and perception of a given site, also develop the skills in sketching as a mode of communication.

And so, we are able to understand the notion of space in architecture and the notion detailing’s in architecture and objects.
PROJECT 2A: Orthographic Projections
Based on the Ex of IN House, by Steven Holl Architects, we are to demonstrate our drafting skills to present clear and legible architectural information.

We are also to identify and apply architectural convention and symbols by using technical pen and pencil on this project.
PROJECT 2B: Axonometric Projections
Axonometric drawing is an excellent method of communicating and expressing an architectural idea. In this project, we learnt on how to execute an axonometric projection by generating external and internal projections of the house. These projections are generated at a scale of 1:75 on A2-sized butter paper and finally inked on tracing paper.
PROJECT 2C: Perspectives Drwings
This assessment introduces perspective as a mode of communication in architecture. In constructing both 1-point and 2-point perspectives, we demonstrate the ability to express spatial idea in 3D form and also understand 2D and 3D relationships in architectural graphics, skills in drawing and composition, creativity and complexity of drawing.
