ASIAN ARCHITECTURE
PROJECT 1 - Research in Asian Architecture
This project is a research driven that requires us to research and discuss the significant issues to generate a critical and clearer understanding of tradition, modernity and globalisation in the Asian architectural contexts. Hence, this project is introduced to activities which requires us to conduct a case study of an Asian architecture - either ancient or contemporary, followed by data collection, indexing, analysis of information, compilation, report form writing, lastly presentation.

In group of 6-7, we are to select an Asian architecture with their own historical development, architectural value and layout case studying and issues relating to the historical and chronological transitions of their history. Our group have choose to study on the inappropriate conservation regime of SiHeYuan and Hutong in Beijing, China, a case study of NanChiZi precinct.

During final submission, an A1 research poster and presentation slides were submitted, accompanied with a research proposal before the research conducted.
PROJECT 2 - Contextual Architecture Study
Continue with the previous tutorial group,this project requires us to analyse the relationship and architecture's design response to the local contexts. The objective is to integrate architectural design and research through a specific case study, supporting students' design extensive research within the framework of Contextual Architecture in Asia.

This project is an individual + group project, we needed to identify a building in ASIA to investigate through observation and readings on contemporary CONTEXTUAL ARCHITECTURE practices and issues in Asia. Our group selected Asakusa Cultural Tourist Information Center designed by Kengou Kuma architect. Based on the selected building, each member must select one topic from: Space organization & access hierarchy, skyline & compression & height, features related to the form of the building, building material and systems, image making elements, dimensions of history & social memories.

We are to compile all the findings in one A2 visual presentation which need to be submitted during submission.
