BUILDING CONSTRUCTION 2

PROJECT 1- SKELETAL CONSTRUCTION ( Temporary Bus Shelter )

In a group of five with Koid, Jet, Shivon and Rosella, we need to construct a temporary bus shelter that can accommodate 5-6 people(1:5). Max height is 600mm. Max base size is 400mm x 800mm.

This construction should demonstrate the knowledge of skeletal frames and its joints. It must clearly define all building components such as roof, column, walls and floor. the structure should be elevated at least 50mm from the ground.

PROJECT 2- UNDERSTANDING FORCES IN BUILDING CONSTRUCTION

This final project is designed to allow us to identifications of basic structural systems in construction and differentiate in terms of loads and forces acting on structural elements. Recognize and apply the implications of construction system in design. And analyse the issues of strength, stiffness and stability of structures including modes of structural systems, forces, stress and strain and laws of static.

In a group of 5 with Erna, Elise, Shivon and Rosella, we are require to propose a building (tensile/membrane construction or grid shell construction) and identify the structural systems used in the construction of the building. The building that we had selected is The Ephemeral Cathedral of Creteil, as shown in the presentation board below.

To describe each structural system identified in terms of Function, Material and Load Distribution we need to produce a model on an A3 base showing the structural systems used in the above building. And a detailed model showing appropriate constructional joints is encouraged.
